Commonly Asked Questions about Throwing a Baby Shower:
A baby shower is a wonderful opportunity for the pregnant women to catch up with friends before life gets real busy, and for friends to wish her well by giving a little gift. If this is the first time you've organized a baby shower, you're probably a little unsure where to start. These are the 5 most commonly asked questions from our readers about baby showers. Check out our answers - they should give you a hand getting started.
1. Question: When are baby showers usually held?
Answer: Most people hold baby showers in the third trimester of pregnancy - when there's a lovely big bump for guests to admire! So, when you're planning a date, aim for anywhere between 28 weeks and 36 weeks pregnant (you don't want to go too close to the due date because labor could start and all your careful planning would be wasted!).
2. Question: Who is usually in charge of throwing the baby shower?
Answer: Generally the best friend or sister of the Mom-to-Be organize the baby shower. If you're the one who's pregnant, don't be afraid to ask a team of your girl pals to throw a shower for you - they're bound to be honored.
3. Question: Who should be on the guest list?
Answer: All of the important women in the Mom-toBe's life: family, friends, colleagues, in-laws. If there are likely to be tensions in the guest-list, consult carefully with Mom-to-Be - the last thing you need is drama at a baby shower!
4. Question: Is it acceptable to have alcohol at a baby shower?
Answer: This is a sticky question. Do we give the guests a glass of champagne, even though the MOm-to-Be isn't drinking? Or should it be an alcohol-free event? It's best to consult with the Mom-to-Be on this one and respect her wishes.
5. Question: How many games should we have? What is the best balance between games and socializing?
Answer: Baby shower games are an excellent icebreaker because you often have women from very different social groups at a baby shower. However, sometimes 'organized fun' can be a little tedious and it's important to get the right balance between games and times for chatting and socializing. As a rule of thumb, we recommend having four or five quick, high-energy games for a successful baby shower.
