What to Expect When You’re Three Weeks Pregnant
In terms of your baby, and your body, week 3 of pregnancy is about when things really start to get real! Remember that, according to the pregnancy week calculator, the third week is the days between 14 and 21 days after the start of your last period. So three weeks pregnant is still very early in terms of fetal development. However, if fertilization was successful, the beginnings of your little embryo are in your womb and rapidly beginning to develop!
It won’t look like a baby yet, though. In fact, it is just a tiny group of cells and it’s only the size of the head of a pin. This cluster of around 100 cells is rapidly multiplying and expanding. And, very soon, the inner cells will form the embryo and the outer cells will form into the placenta.
Are there any Pregnancy Symptoms in Week Three?
Even at week three of pregnancy, you still won’t have any outward sign you are pregnant. That’s unlikely to come until the first day of your expected period: a missed period is generally the very first sign of pregnancy. Pregnancy symptoms before missed period are extremely rare.
Pregnancy test accuracy is likely to be much higher in week three of pregnancy than it was in weeks one or two because your HCG pregnancy hormones will have built up to a higher level. If you’ve managed to wait to take the test or if you’ve been disappointed with the results: now’s the best time!
To Do List when You’re Three Weeks Pregnant
Mom’s the word: I know it’s a ‘to do’ list. But unfortunately, we do advise one ‘not to do’ at this stage of pregnancy. If you’ve had positive pregnancy test results, you’re probably super excited. But try and keep the secret between you and your partner for at least a few weeks. It’s a heartbreaking fact that pregnancy miscarriage can be very common at this stage. Having to explain to friends and family that you’re not pregnant anymore could add to your grief if the worst should happen.
Talk and plan with your partner: These first stages of pregnancy are a great time to communicate closely with your partner and to start planning to be the very best parents you can be. It’s a magical, intimate time in a relationship.
