What to Expect when You’re 24 Weeks Pregnant
At 24 weeks pregnant, your baby is in the middle of an intense period of growth. He or she now weighs approximately one and a third pounds and should be gaining around six ounces per week. At the moment Baby is long and lean – around eleven and a half inches. But he or she will be beginning to “grow into” their skin and, by the time you give birth, will be lovely and plump!
The facial features are now fully formed and, if you have an ultrasound coming up, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of what he or she will look like!
Common Symptoms at 24 Weeks Pregnant
Of all of the pregnancy symptoms cramps can be the most uncomfortable. Abdominal cramps are usually the result of your growing uterus and are perfectly normal as long as they aren’t intense or accompanied by pregnancy bleeding (call your doctor right away!).
Leg cramps may also be added to your symptoms for pregnancy around week 24. These may be caused by retained fluid, blood flow issues, or just the extra weight you’re carrying around. Regular stretching of the calves should help you relieve these muscle spasms.
Another of the signs of pregnancy that women often experience at this stage is puffiness, tingling or numbness of the ankles and feet. This symptom is called pregnancy Edema. While uncomfortable, it is a perfectly normal symptom pregnant women have to deal with. It’s caused by retained fluid. Try and elevate your legs regularly to avoid letting the fluid pool in your lower legs. You may need to buy soft shoes in a size larger than your usual if walking is becoming uncomfortable.
To Do List
This stage of pregnancy can be a little isolating. It can feel like no one understands what you’re going through. If you are feeling lonely, make sure you’re communicating regularly with your partner. Or you could set up a coffee date with the women from your antenatal classes or join some pregnancy forums online.
You’re now well on in your pregnancy calendar and your belly will be very prominent! Old ladies will smile at you in the street and people may want to touch your belly. For some reason, a woman pregnant is hard to resist! Feel free to ask strangers not to touch you – you’re entitled to privacy!
Stop Trying to Squeeze into Your Regular Clothes:
At this stage of your pregnancy, you’re probably finding it impossible to fit any of your regular clothes. And, as you’re about to get much larger fast, it might be time to invest in some more casual, formal and work maternity clothes to suit the season.
