What to Expect when You’re 18 weeks pregnant
By pregnancy week 18, your baby (and that telltale bump!) continue to grow rapidly. He or she is now about the size of a turnip – five and a half inches long – and weighs approximately seven ounces. The nervous system is developing rapidly and what will eventually become your baby’s sense of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing are being prepared.
Common Symptoms at 18 Weeks Pregnant
You’re probably very used to pregnancy by week 18. There aren’t many new symptoms pregnant women experience at this stage – apart from that ever-expanding waistline! It’s possible that you’ll begin to feel the first flutterings of your baby moving. But, if this is your first pregnancy, don’t be too surprised if you don’t start to detect any movement until around week twenty.
Pregnancy Week 18 To Do List
If you haven’t already, now’s a great time to make an appointment to drop into local birthing centers or maternity wards and to get lots of delivery and maternity information from your midwife. The more knowledge you have, the better prepared you’ll be – and, the better prepared you are, the less stressful you’ll find the process!
You now have a rather obvious, but still compact, little bump. So now’s a great time to get some pregnancy photos taken with your partner. Pregnant pictures make a great first page of your baby album and your little one will love looking back at the time they were “in your tummy”. You could even buy a stylish maternity dress and make your photo shoot extra special.
I know! We’ve said it every single week of our guide to pregnancy! But it really is essential that you continue to eat nutritious food, drink plenty of water, and keep up with those pregnancy workouts. Your baby (and your body!) will thank you for it!
